Call for Papers
On behalf of the organizers of PROFESSOR ANDRZEJ BARTNICKI FORUM FOR THE ADVANCED STUDIES OF THE UNITED STATES  (hereafter THE AMERICAN FORUM), I would like to invite you to participate in its 11th edition entitled ?WOMEN IN AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE?. The conference will be held at the Jerzy Giedroyc University Library, University of Bialystok from 27 to 29 June 2014.

The general aims of the event have remained unchanged throughout all the editions:

  1. to provide the academic environment for Ph.D. students to present their projects in American history, culture, and politics;
  2. to give an opportunity to young and established American Studies scholars to present fragments of their current research work;
  3. to commemorate Professor Andrzej Bartnicki, the ?founding father? of the American Studies Center at the Warsaw University and the new Polish school of American history.

The theme of the 11th FORUM is ?WOMEN IN AMERICAN HISTORY AND CULTURE?. This broad framework allows for the presentation and discussion of various aspects of women?s activities and their changing role and impact on American social and political life through American history. One may consider the roles of individual women ? teachers, social workers, activists, politicians, diplomats, and of women?s organizations and informal groups - professional, ethnic, community, trade unions etc.  It provides space for fresh approaches, perspectives, and new interpretations. The general program of the 11th FORUM resembles the former ones:

  • Day 1 (Friday, June 27) ? inauguration and keynote speakers.
  • Day 2 (Saturday, June 28) ? presentations and discussions of the outlines of Ph.D. and habilitation projects (including primary and secondary sources); a workshop on methodological issues.
  • Day 3 (Sunday, June 29) ? the presentation of papers on the subject related to the Forum?s leading theme.

The papers should be in ENGLISH, whereas the methodological workshop, the Ph.D. and habilitation projects and methodological discussions may be either in POLISH or ENGLISH, according to individual preference.

All types of papers and presentation proposals should be submitted by May 10, 2014 to the following e-mail address: Ten adres pocztowy jest chroniony przed spamowaniem. Aby go zobaczyć, konieczne jest włączenie w przeglądarce obsługi JavaScript.
